We install decking for any garden. All of the decking photos below are from work undertaken by ourselves.
In the right place, in the right material, and soundly constructed, a deck can be a tremendous asset to a garden. One feature that makes it so valuable is the ability to have the deck level at, or very near, the level of the adjacent room. A deck can then really extend, and link, the living area of the house with the garden.
We clad decks in hardwood or modern composite materials that are equally durable and have good anti-slip properties. The deck boards are secured to the hardwood framing timbers which are properly sized and supported on adequate foundations.
The examples that follow show a number of decks we have designed and constructed as part of complete landscaping projects. If you would like to discuss a possible project with us, please call.
Decking Construction
The original garden had many different levels and surfaces; there were also old evergreen shrubs of limited interest as well as one or two good specimens well worth preserving.
The agreed design included a large hardwood deck that provided a clean and safe area for the young family. There was access at house floor level and decking covered sleepers retained the high bank on one boundery and allowed for softening planting behind.
A flight of easy steps to an upper play area also provided a popular place for small people to sit. Planting with, mainly, specimen size plants to provide colour and interest through the year completed this part of the garden. The pictures show various aspects including the beautiful Arbutus tree that was retained and provided a shady place in the heat of the day.
The Iroka framing is complete and ready for cladding. Following pictures show the alignment of the decking boards with a uniform gap between them. We avoid joining deck boards wherever possible.
The level of the deck relative to the threshold of the door can be seen.
The colour of the wood changes when wet, as can be seen in the third picture. The final shot shows the completed deck in the context of part of the rest of the garden.
This reasonably large hardwood deck was designed and built with access from two rooms and at their level.
The intended use was multi-functional providing a safe play area for a toddler and as a recreational and dining area in fine weather.
The pictures show some of the construction details.
